Our strategy consulting services help organizations create value and achieve competitive advantage through the optimized alignment of technology and business strategy. We understand what’s required for people, processes and technology to effectively interact so your organization’s strategic goals can be met. We take the time to understand how your business operates, we know how to ask the right questions and we listen. We work together to define a technology strategy and governance model that is responsive to business opportunities – driving growth, improving process efficiency and increasing revenue based on the specific needs of your company and industry.
Our approach is collaborative, forming a team with key leaders within the client’s organization, and developing a cohesive technology strategy in five phases.
1. Business Strategy Review
We begin with a review of the mission, vision, goals, and strategy of the business, so that we can derive the context for the technology strategy. What does IT need to be and do in order to support the business strategy? What capabilities can IT deliver that can form the basis for new business models and revenue streams?
2. Current State Analysis
We assess the health of the current IT applications portfolio, with a combination of online user surveys and in-person interviews, ranking each major business system in terms of its importance to the organization, the business value it provides, and the relative state of the existing technical solution. This gives us an early indication concerning which systems are the highest priority candidates for nurturing, replacement, or upgrading. Using metrics provided by trusted third parties, we benchmark IT spending and staffing levels, the adoption level for new technologies, and the state of management best practices.
3. Future State Vision
Guided by a core set of principles, we envision a future state where systems, technology, people, and processes are fully aligned with the business strategy. We explore what new and innovative technologies have most relevance to your business and which you should you consider for adoption. Using a variety of facilitation tools, our management consultants collaborate with the team to formulate the strategic vision, value proposition, competitive differentiation, and strategic alternatives (e.g. develop a capability vs. make an acquisition). This phase includes development of a strategic narrative that is powerful, compelling, and easy to communicate.
4. IT Strategy Roadmap
This is the formulation stage, Our strategy consultants now develop the strategy in more detail in terms of objectives, a three to five year road map, and key metrics. We define the individual initiatives of the IT strategy in more detail. The key deliverable is a strategic IT road map that defines the desired future state and the way to get there. It also includes summary descriptions, a high/level timeline, budgetary estimates, and business cases for the major initiatives needed to reach the goal.
Carrying out the strategic plan includes assigning responsibility for each initiative, program/project management, and organizational change management. Our execution services are described in more detail.
